Staff Reminders

Water Walkway Reminders

  •  Run classes regularly for the first 17 minutes (approximately).
  • With 10 minutes of left of class, ring the bell to head to water walkway
  • Independent students wait on spots and go over directions while LF classes goes down water walkway (2 – 3 minutes) – encourage parents to put infants and toddlers on the mat all at the same time.
  • Once LF clears, the students will stand up and move dot to dot until it is their turn to go down the water walkway LF class will return to black to use Slide. DS & DSA will have to make sure to stagger and manage all students appropriately DS at the Water Walkway DSA at the corner of the stairs closest to middle door to manage traffic 1 splashdown instructor 1 instructor on each side of the water walkway If there is only three instructors one instructor at the end of the water walkway, one instructor on the side of the water walkway facing the lobby window and one instructor on deck controlling traffic.
  • The water walkway will run right up to the 27 minute mark, dismiss classes and reset the pool for the next half hour.
  • When using the water walkway, the ideal setup would be: The deck supervisor at the top of the mat standing on it to keep it steady Someone at the end to catch and/or assist with entry into the water. Two people, on either side of the mat to help hold the mat steady and to make sure students don’t fall off the side of the mat. One person to receive the children from the person catching, who can assist with reaching the wall and climbing up One person on deck to help direct the line. Ideal setup is to have six plus people on deck to fill all of these rolls. Understandable that during the morning shift there may not be enough staff to cover all of the spots. Morning shifts with low staff numbers: Make sure the deck supervisor is at the top of the mat standing on it to keep it steady One person on the back side holding on to the mat One person at the end of the mat to catch each child It is important that the Deck Supervisor controls the pace of the students going down the mat, so that the person catching can safety get the children to the wall. If there are multiple people in the office, the DS can ask that one of them comes out to assist managing the line if you don’t have a DSA or a second DS As usual Deck Supervisor Assistant should be prepared to get into the water to assist with any of these needs.
  • Please do not splash students who are going down the walkway, as instructors, you do not know the comfort level of all students in the pool that half hour
  • NO shaking the mat, the mat is hard and heavy. It may injure a student who is walking down or an instructor standing on the sides
  • Please shout out your students who may not be ready to submerge with an instructor at the end that they do not have a relationship with, OR, if you know the student is not a confident swimmer. Always be mindful as we run this, as a lot is going on at once so we need to function well as a team to make sure it can be both safe and fun for everyone.
