X. Roll Overs

Assisted Roll Overs (if you have parents that are comfortable with you handling the child – if not have them place the child on the end of the pool or the big mat and instructor them the roll the child over)

Why: To further educate parents about the dive reflex and to practice Breath Control! Introducing roll overs at this age also leads to enhanced breath control as a they challenged by changing position in the water while still keeping the water out of their airway!

How: Support the child under the arms while facing the parent with the noodle in between the two of you.  Gently lift the child above the surface of the water then slowly lower to submerge, glide forward and roll them to the front.  ( This simple action can lead to enhanced breath control as they start to submerge from the cool air the the warm water).  Encourage the parent to support them on the back once they arrive until the water drifts away.
